Frankfurt, 23 May 2024 – GLP, a leading global business builder, owner, developer and operator of logistics real estate, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and related technologies, has today announced the handover of a newly developed warehouse to a leading German commercial vehicle manufacturer. The 17,500 SQM warehouse will be used for the commissioning, packaging, and shipping of high-quality vehicle parts.

The site and original warehouse were purchased by GLP in 2015. At the end of 2023, following the departure of the previous tenant, the old facility was replaced with a new state-of-the-art sustainable warehouse using c.20,000 cubic metres of recycled materials from the old building in the construction process.

The rebuilt site has been completed in compliance with the strict sustainability standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and in accordance with the DGNB Gold standard. The asset benefits from a range of new sustainability features including an energy-efficient air-to-air heat pump system, and a roof designed to support a solar PV system. The building also includes 15 rear unloading gates and five drive-in ramps, three of which have side-loading canopies.

Mannheim 1 logistics centre is strategically located in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, one of Germany’s most economically active business regions, and benefits from excellent transport connections. The property is in the industrial and commercial area of Friedrichsfeld, c.15 minutes by car from the centre of Mannheim. Its proximity to the major A656, A6, and A5 motorways meanwhile, provides easy and convenient access to one of Germany’s most dynamic business hubs.

Michael Gerke, Head of Development Germany, GLP, comments: “Our unique approach to redeveloping existing sites coupled with our modern construction solutions has enabled this leading commercial vehicle manufacturer to benefit from a range of carbon reduction, recycling and cost-saving measures. We are pleased that the strategic location of Mannheim 1 and its industry-leading sustainability features allowed us to secure a long-term lease before the building was complete.”
