Madrid, 24 September 2024 – GLP, a leader in the development of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, announces today that one of its most advanced facilities, G-Park Getafe in Madrid, has obtained BREEAM Outstanding certification.

The 22,268 sqm logistics warehouse is only the third logistics development anywhere in Spain to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding certification. Within its wider European network, GLP has 199,405 sqm across four campuses certified with BREEAM’s highest rating, underlining the company’s ongoing focus on sustainability.

Commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency

G-Park Getafe’s commitment to sustainability has focused on reducing energy consumption and emissions. According to estimates, the facility should generate 93.6% lower CO2 emissions than a standard reference building. Likewise, the building’s energy demand is expected to be 48.0%, lower and energy consumption 92.3% lower, thanks to the inclusion of a range of features including a solar PV system and other technologies.

In addition to its reduced energy consumption, the facility is also projected to require 81.6% less water compared to traditional buildings, largely due to a rainwater recovery system in line with GLP’s longstanding commitment to the responsible use of resources.

Health, well-being, and environmental management

The well-being of those occupying the building has also been a key consideration. The ventilation system has been designed in accordance with the strictest indoor air quality standards, ensuring a healthy environment. Meanwhile, the use of construction products with low volatile organic compound emissions is contributing to a cleaner and safer atmosphere.

From an environmental management perspective, G-Park Getafe has regenerated a previously urbanised brownfield site which has minimised the ecological impact of the construction. A range of other measures have also been implemented to protect and promote the natural environment including the installation of bird and insect nests and the planting of native plant species that require no additional irrigation.

Óscar Heras, General Manager of GLP in Spain commented: “This achievement not only strengthens our position in the market but also reaffirms our commitment to delivering projects that meet the highest standards of sustainability and efficiency. We thank everyone who contributed to this success and look forward to achieving many more milestones together in the future.”
