Discount supermarket chain Lidl leases 40,000 SQM

Frankfurt, 21 June 2022 – GLP has leased approximately 40,000 SQM in Magna Park Berlin-Werder (Havel), Germany, to the food retailer Lidl, a new client. GLP has now fully leased the centrally located, speculatively developed logistics facility to the south-west of Berlin. This also marks the leasing of all space currently available across GLP’s entire German portfolio.

GLP plans to start the next phase of speculative construction in Magna Park Berlin-Werder (Havel) this summer. A total of about 130,000 SQM of modern logistics space can still be developed in Magna Park Berlin-Werder (Havel) in the short term. The new spaces are expected to be completed as from the end of 2023, and some are still available. Further logistics facilities are currently under construction at other GLP sites across Germany.

The building leased to Lidl fulfils the highest requirements for modern, sustainable logistics facilities and is German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) Gold-certified, as is the case with all GLP’s new developments in the market. Development was focused on rigorous ESG standards, allowing the tenant to reduce its CO2 footprint and its operating costs. Colliers International Germany GmbH brokered the leasing contract. GLP was advised by DLA Piper on matters of real estate law.

Magna Park Berlin-Werder (Havel) is located in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region, one of the most economically dynamic regions in Europe. It is situated to the south-west of Berlin, directly on the A10 motorway, the Berlin motorway ring. It thus has a direct connection to the A9 (Berlin-Leipzig) and A24 (Berlin-Hamburg) motorways. Travel time to the A2 (Berlin-Hanover) motorway is only seven minutes. The facility is located 14 kilometres from Potsdam and 30 kilometres from Berlin. It is 157 kilometres from Leipzig, 236 kilometres from Hanover and 280 kilometres from Hamburg.

Sustainable construction

GLP’s logistics and distribution facilities fulfil the highest standards for environmentally friendly construction. All the company’s new developments in the German market are built in compliance with the strict sustainability standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and are at least DGNB Gold-certified. This sustainable approach allows tenants to reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions and water usage, and thus operating costs.

Patrick Frank, Country Director Germany at GLP, comments: “We warmly welcome Lidl to Magna Park Berlin-Werder (Havel). With the discount supermarket chain moving into this site, all our logistics facilities at this park and throughout Germany are fully leased. We currently will not have any further space available in our German portfolio in the near future, but we are working to construct new sites for our customers. This shows once again that the high degree of trust that our international investors have in us is justified.”
