GLP presents OAXIS GLP Park Madrid Villaverde at SIL

GLP’s new logistics project in the heart of Madrid, totalling 273,100 SQM, will be the new European benchmark for logistics buildings

  • The site will be an ecosystem that prioritises the well-being of people and harmony with the local community.

  • The project, which began in 2020 and is expected to complete in 2025, is a response to the boom in e-commerce and will enable sustainable distribution to the city of Madrid with electric vehicles.

Barcelona, 1st June 2022 – GLP presents on June 1st at SIL Barcelona its OAXIS GLP Park Madrid Villaverde project located in a strategic area of Madrid, near the A42, M40 and M30, 9 km from Puerta del Sol. Due its urban location, this large logistics park has been  conceived with a strong focus on sustainability and positive impact for the local communities.

The project, which began in 2020 and will be completed in 2025, will be a definitive response to the need for efficient and sustainable last-mile logistics solutions – a demand created by the new reality of e-commerce which is increasingly present in our lives. The site’s proximity to the big city and connections to the urban environment will provide efficiency, whilst also facilitating sustainable last-mile distribution with 100% non-polluting, electric vehicles.

This new project is focused on three fundamental pillars – people, technology and sustainability – to achieve a logistics park integrated with the community of Villaverde. GLP intends to receive WELL certification for the park, an accreditation focused on improving the quality of life of workers. If successful, the site will be first logistics park in Spain to achieve this.

The project is aligned with GLP’s rigorous global ESG standards and illustrates GLP’s ambition to be a leader in delivering resilient buildings to respond to climate risks as well as being integrated in the environmental and social ecosystems. The project has multiple green and community areas such as sports courts, outdoor gyms, urban gardens, restaurants, electric charging areas, bicycle parking and a running track – all of this will enhance community collaboration activities.

Óscar Heras, Director of GLP Spain, commented: „OAXIS focuses on both the community and sustainability because, for GLP, it is essential to blend in with the environment and contribute to the local area by generating employment opportunities and a boost to the economy. There are many challenges in developing a project like OAXIS, as we are doing something unprecedented. However, thanks to specialised external advice from local authorities and an exhaustive study of the most cutting-edge logistics parks in the world, this project in Madrid is already a reality that we hope will inspire many more to come, both in Spain and globally. OAXIS is going to be a benchmark for sustainable distribution in urban areas.“
