Development in the dynamic Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region

GLP, a leading investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, today announces the development of a 40,000 SQ M logistics centre in the Duisburg area, centrally located in Europe in the dynamic Rhein-Ruhr metropolitan region, the most populated metropolitan area in Germany. Development has begun, and it is expected to complete in August 2021.

“Our new Duisburg-West Logistics Centre is going up in the heart of the Rhine-Ruhr area, a strategic location with excellent connections to the A40, A42 and A57 motorways. The central geographical location demonstrates our ability to develop sites in prime locations for our clients, despite the shortage of available land in the area,” says Nils Mutzke, Development Director, GLP.

The new development is an ideal hub for logistics and distribution across the entire region as a result of its location in a major economic area with approximately 10 million consumers and a qualified labour pool, as well as its proximity to the western neighbouring states and good access to large infrastructure facilities. The Düsseldorf international airport and the Duisburg Harbour can both be reached in under 25 minutes while the Cologne Bonn international airport can be reached within an hour. In addition, the Weeze and Monchengladbach commercial airports are within a radius of less than 45 kilometres. Numerous inland ports provide additional connectivity to inland waterway transport along the Rhine.

The Duisburg-West Logistics Centre has a clear height of 10 metres and consists of two buildings with warehouses of approximately 21,000 SQ M and 10,000 SQ M, mezzanine spaces of 3,500 SQ M and 2,250 SQ M, and office and communal areas of 1,750 SQ M and 950 SQ M, respectively.

The facility offers a wide range of high-quality specifications and sustainability features, including an above-average number of trailer parking spaces (31 for both buildings) and dock doors (40 in Building 1 and 22 in Building 2), as well as a generously sized courtyard for logistics operations with a high rate of turnover. A high-quality sprinkler system enables rack storage of foamed plastic without in-rack sprinklers. The roof and the facade are especially well insulated in order to save energy, reduce CO2 emissions and keep operating costs down.

Like all new developments by GLP, the Duisburg-West Logistics Centre is being built in compliance with the strict sustainability standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
