GLP to develop a 25,000 SQM high-quality commercial property near Leipzig

Frankfurt, 26 April 2022 – GLP, a leading investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, is developing a 25,000 SQM commercial property in Grimma, near Leipzig, Germany. The facility is a new development that will consist of two building units with approximately equal areas available for leasing. The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in October 2022, with completion planned for mid-2023.

With its excellent travel connections, current zoning and high-quality building facilities and functionality, the building can be used for a wide range of purposes in the Leipzig-Halle metropolitan area and the wider region, or by local clients for light industrial purposes.

The purchase of the land from the WEP Group, which developed the industrial area in cooperation with the City of Grimma, was brokered by the Logistics & Industrial Team at BNP Paribas Real Estate in Leipzig.

Grimma is located between Leipzig, the largest city in the state of Saxony and part of the Central German metropolitan region, and the state capital Dresden, which is accessible in only an hour’s drive. Both domestically and internationally, the Leipzig area is considered a leading logistics location, with a trimodal transport infrastructure combining road, railway and air transport.

The six-hectare site is strategically located close to the A14 motorway, near the Grimma exit. Via a motorway ring around Leipzig and Halle, the new GLP logistics facility is integrated into a dense road transport network, including access to the GVZ Leipzig Freight Village for road-rail transhipment and the Leipzig-Halle Airport.

The Leipzig-Halle Airport is one of the five largest air cargo hubs in Europe and the second-largest cargo airport in Germany. A leading express shipping provider operates its own air cargo hub in the immediate vicinity, the largest transhipment centre in its worldwide express network.

GLP’s logistics and distribution facilities fulfil the highest standards for environmentally friendly construction. All the company’s new developments in the German market are built in compliance with the strict sustainability standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and are at least DGNB Gold-certified. This sustainable approach allows tenants to reduce energy consumption, CO2 emissions and water usage, and thus operating costs.

Patrick Frank, Country Director Germany, GLP, comments: “With the choice of the Leipzig area, we are once again fulfilling our promise of offering our clients prime locations in key economic regions despite the shortage of available land. The City of Grimma supported our efforts in an outstanding way and we are very grateful for that.”

Leading real estate companies point out the increased logistics space turnover in the Leipzig logistics market and see the growth in e-commerce as an important driver of this trend.
