GLP leases new 40,000 SQ M logistics facility near Duisburg, Germany to electronics retailer Aukey
Frankfurt, 30 September 2021 – GLP, a leading investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, has completed the development of a 40,000 SQ M logistics facility in Moers near Duisburg, Germany.
The facility has been leased by Aukey, an international retailer of consumer electronics and computer equipment, which will use the site as the central e-fulfilment platform for the distribution of its products in Germany, the Benelux countries and neighbouring markets.
“We look forward to working together with our new client, Aukey. Due to its central location in the Rhine-Ruhr region, the most populated metropolitan area in Germany, the Duisburg-West Logistics Centre is an ideal site for European distribution”, says Nils Mutzke, Development Director, GLP.
“We chose Duisburg-West because, despite the shortage of available land, GLP offered us a high-quality facility in exactly the location we desired for our European distribution, quickly and in a transparent manner”, explains Ye Junchen, General Manager, Aukey Europe.
Central location, first-class connections
The Duisburg-West Logistics Centre is located in the heart of the Rhine-Ruhr area, a strategic location with excellent connections to the A40, A42 and A57 motorways. The new development is an ideal hub for logistics and distribution across the entire region given its proximity to approximately 10 million consumers and a qualified labour pool, as well as to the western neighbouring states and to large infrastructure facilities. The site is 37 kilometres from Düsseldorf, 70 kilometres from Dortmund and 77 kilometres from Cologne.
The Düsseldorf international airport and the Cologne Bonn international airport can be reached within 30 to 60 minutes, and the Duisburg Harbour can be reached in less than 30 minutes. The Weeze and Mönchengladbach commercial airports are within a radius of less than 45 kilometres, offering additional air connections. Numerous inland ports provide additional connectivity to inland waterway transport along the Rhine.
High-quality specifications, cost-efficient and sustainable operations
The logistics facility has a clear height of 10 metres, and holds a permit for 24-hour operations. It consists of two buildings with warehouses of approximately 21,500 SQ M and 10,300 SQ M, mezzanine spaces of 3,500 SQ M and 2,250 SQ M, and office and communal areas of 1,400 SQ M and 600 SQ M, respectively.
The facility offers a wide range of high-quality specifications and sustainability features, including an above-average number of trailer parking spaces (32 for both buildings) and dock doors (a total of 50 in the two buildings) and a combined total of 117 car parking spaces, as well as a generously sized courtyard for 24-hour logistics operations with a high rate of turnover. A high-quality ESFR (Early Suppression Fast Response) sprinkler system enables rack storage of foamed plastic without in-rack sprinklers. The roof and the facade are especially well insulated in order to save energy, reduce CO2 emissions and keep operating costs down.
Like all new developments by GLP, the Logistics Centre was built in compliance with the strict sustainability standards of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The building is to be certified according to DGNB Gold.
