GLP, a leading investor and developer of logistics warehouses and distribution parks, today announces it has successfully leased its first facility in Spain to DHL Supply Chain. DHL is a long-standing customer of GLP’s across Europe, China, Japan, India, Brazil and the US. DHL will in turn manage the logistics for Zalando in Spain.

Zalando is Europe’s leading online platform for fashion and lifestyle, and the new Illescas facility will support the brand’s growth in Spain.

The central location of Illescas, in the province of Toledo, with easy access to the A 42 and A 4 motorways and less than 40 km from Madrid, offers privileged access to Zalando’s ever- growing Iberian customer base, allowing shorter deliveries in Spain.

This marks Zalando’s first logistics facility in Spain and is evidence of accelerating momentum of e-commerce as one of the main drivers in the Spanish logistics industry.

The building has been awarded a BREEAM “Very Good” certification, reflecting GLP’s ongoing commitment to sustainability across its portfolio. This result has been achieved through state-of-the-art LED lighting coupled with a motion detector system, as well as photovoltaic solar panels and clerestory windows, which will result in considerably lower operating costs compared to industry norms. It will also feature electric charging points for vehicles and bicycle parking, as well as safe access for pedestrians, all promoting sustainable modes of transport.

Miguel Monreal, Business Development Director Spain at GLP, says: „Since entering the Spanish market in 2019, we are proud to announce our first lease in the country. DHL is a long-term customer of GLP, and we look forward to developing this partnership further. We are excited to support Zalando’s logistics expansion through accommodating its first warehouse in Spain.”

“At just thirty-five minutes from Madrid, G-Park Illescas is exceptionally located and has been developed with industry-leading features, high quality materials, and with respect for the surrounding environment. We plan to continue to grow our presence in the region and have made significant progress in expanding our portfolio to meet the growing demands of logistics customers.”

Rubén Aliseda, Director of the Retail and  Ecommerce  business  unit  of  DHL  Supply Chain Iberia, says: “We choose GLP because the space it provides us meets the best conditions to structure the logistics operations and supply chain that we are going to manage for Zalando, both in terms of warehouse capacity and infrastructure to allow goods to enter and exit in an agile way, even during high demand peaks, which are increasingly common in the e-commerce environment in which Zalando operates ”
